Learn the 450 year old art of Japanese swordsmanship.
We are a dojo practicing Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido, a classical school of Japanese swordsmanship, focused on the use of the katana. We are affiliated with the Beikoku-Tendai Iaido Kai (the US-Tendai, Japan Iaido Group), Seitokai (the Orthodox Sword Association) and the Zen Nihon Iaido Renmei (The All-Japan Iaido Federation).
Our school teaches this martial and cultural artifact to strengthen our minds, bodies and spirits, as well as provide a unique cultural connection to Japan. We offer three classes a week at the American Family Martial Arts School in Baton Rouge. All classes are open to beginners, and every beginner will work one-on-one with our instructors until they feel comfortable participating in the regular instruction.
All prospective students are required to watch a full class before practicing. This is to ensure you understand what we do is not what some see from popular culture. Beyond that, every student can take two free classes before deciding to join. All necessary equipment will be provided, all you need is comfortable clothes.
In addition to regular classes, we have several seminars throughout the year, including a national seminar with visits from Japanese instructors. This is combined with tests for rank in Seitokai.
We do not discriminate against any student on the basis of identity or ability. We have students of varying levels of ability, and teaching accommodations are made for all.
Please come join us!
Classes are located in American Family Martial Arts.
Minimum age: 13 with high school freshman status.
